You’ll often see olive fruit flies and scale insects attacking outdoor olive trees. The flies lay eggs inside olives, causing fruit to rot in about 20 to 30 days. Scales attach to leaves and branches, sucking sap and weakening your tree. You can spray insecticidal soap or use neem oil every two weeks when temperatures stay above 50°F. Watch for black sooty mold indicating heavy scale infestations, then act quickly.
